Sustainable Project in Nepal
The aim of our project is to establish, together with a local NGO, a chain of production with organic cotton in order to foster the employments in this area.
We seek to help regarding work management and the techniques applied, as well as with the quality of the production chain.
Importance of the project
The textile industry is very important for Nepal as it represents nearly half of its total exports. Furthermore, it gives employment to thousands of families.
The reduction of suppliers by major European importers as well as international competitiveness are two factors that have made Nepali textile exports to the EU decrease at over 60% these past 12 years.
In addition, the Nepalese associations that are working under fair trade criteria admit there is an emergency for Nepal to have access to sustainable materials, because if they do not succeed to do so, they will lose most of their current customers.
If we do not act, thousands of Nepalese will be even more affected by high levels of unemployment and poverty than those who suffer now.
The challenge is we intend to curb this trend,
- Increasing women employment and gender equality
- Creating a sustainable chain of organic cotton
- Improving the work skills
Impact of our project
84% of what our local NGOs produce is intended for export, thus an improvement in demand will improve the situation of more than 600 families.
